Biography
Riko is originally from Japan. After studying art in Germany, she settled in the UK, teaching and performing music and art.
At the age of 3, she started taking piano lessons and performed in front of audiences regularly. She also started solfège from an early age and conducted choirs and a big band at school.
Riko continued her music practice after she left Japan.
After her son was born, she has been working more with children in the community, running classes and organising events.
Riko successfully taught piano to pupils who continued to study music.
In the summer of 2016, she took a summer composition course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and studied with Oliver Searle and James MacMillan.
She is currently studying recorder with Annabel Knight and Chris Orton and composition with Andrew Toovey at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
She is the winner of the RBC Recorder Prize 2024 and Doris Newton Music Club Prize 2024.
Her home is in Glasgow where she has 2 children. She teaches piano, theory and recorder.

The Early Music Ensemble
The early music ensemble is formed at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and plays mostly Baroque repertoires.
The ensemble started playing together in October 2023. It consists of the strong engine room – team basso formed by Gen Li (Baroque Cello) and Paul Kowal (Harpsichord) and the three unique and brave treble players William Sherratt (Baroque Oboe), Kalu Ramirez (Baroque Violin) and Riko Suzuki (Recorder). All members are originally from different countries, but the love of Baroque music brought us together. Music is the universal language of mankind.
